Great Pyrenees, The Family Bodyguard!
There is a large dog out there whose popularity seems to be growing stronger than ever. Whenever you see these great pyrenees puppies for sale the name may be a bit unfamiliar. These are large dogs that are a member of the Bernard family.
The males can be absolutely massive weighing around one hundred to one hundred and twenty pounds. WOW! They also stand from twenty seven to thirty two inches from their foot to their shoulder. It is a very toughly-built dog and is also very muscular and athletic. It is also a very easily trainable dog. They have a very strong protective instinct with courage that leave a human’s far behind. Even when they were first brought about they were made to be the protector of the herd. They were to ward off the “big” predators that would put their herd in danger.
This protective attitude gives them to courage to not back down from anything, or anyone! Because of this you should get the dog as a pup in order for it to be properly trained and socialized to your entire family. These overprotective tendencies can cause this breed of dog to become aggressive if not properly trained. These great pyrenees dogs should never be hit or shouted at. This will bring out the instinctual aggressiveness that is bred into him.
This dog can be kept in the house, but is not really an indoor dog. If you do decide to keep it in the house you should be sure to have a large fence and yard for the dog to be properly exercised. This dog tends to not get along with other dogs. If you have a few other dogs this may not be the breed for your home. It will come into contact with other dogs: that is inevitable! The best thing to prevent this is: if you take the dog out of the house perimeters, keep it on a very strong leash and a collar that will not allow the dog to pull you.
The great pyrenees dog is a great family pet. Even though it has some qualities that are not desirable, if it is properly trained you will not have to worry about any of this. These dogs love to play and are very affectionate, especially with its immediate owners. This dog has a great sense of hearing and will notice the slightest noises and will alert you to them. They are a very wonderful dog and if you would like a “bodyguard” type dog then the great pyrenees may be for you!
